The Mapleton Men’s Shed is a community organisation focused on "enhancing the physical and mental well-being of its members.
The inaugural public meeting on October 24, 2013, assessed interest in forming the Men's Shed. In 2023, the Shed marked its 10th anniversary with a celebratory lunch, boasting a current membership of approximately 80 men.
MADCA played a crucial role in the Shed's establishment, contributing a $671.00 donation and auspicing until it gained independence. Securing a lease for the Mapleton Forest Office began shortly after the inaugural meeting and concluded on June 26, 2015. MADCA provided advocacy during the complex negotiation processes with various State Government entities and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Members of the Shed dedicated themselves to restoring the site, transforming it from a dilapidated, termite-infested state to a community asset exceeding half a million dollars. Despite popular belief, the Shed's primary focus isn't woodworking or metalworking but fostering camaraderie and mutual support.
Operational on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings from 0830 to 1200, the Shed also hosts a drop-in center at the Barracks building on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for men to gather and chat over coffee.
