Community gardens offer numerous benefits to both individuals and the community as a whole. They provide a space for people to come together, build relationships, and work towards a common goal. In addition to fostering a sense of community, community gardens can also provide fresh produce that is affordable and accessible to all members of the community.
Take along something to swap, and share. Place your offerings in the centre. First round choose one thing. Second round, choose another. MAybe a beverage may be involved. Mapleton Community Crop Swap is on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting at 9.00am, at the pergola behind TOSH.
The recent successful 'Crop Swap' at The Old School House in Mapleton has a new addition to its repertoire – the 'Teas 'n Bees' herb garden. This achievement owes its success to the dedicated efforts of a small, but determined team.
As a result of their efforts, the garden now boasts a selection of Lavender, Lemongrass, Catnip, Oregano, Wormwood, Parsley, Calendula, Motherwort, and Cranberry Hibiscus. With these plants, team anticipate flavorsome brews and vibrant bee-friendly blooms in the near future. There's already talk of expanding the garden during the next swap, pending community interest. Feel free to join in and contribute.
Among the herbs in the 'Bees 'n Teas' garden at TOSH, Motherwort stands out. It has a rich history in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and European Herb Lore, known for its nurturing qualities that ease anxiety, soothe nerves, and support heart health. As the name suggests, Motherwort is traditionally associated with women's health, particularly after childbirth. In Chinese medicine, it has been used to address a wide range of heart-related issues, both physical and emotional. In today's tumultuous world, the soothing embrace of Motherwort could be a valuable gift for our hearts.
